12:3
نَحْنُ نَقُصُّ عَلَيْكَ أَحْسَنَ الْقَصَصِ بِمَا أَوْحَيْنَا إِلَيْكَ هَـٰذَا الْقُرْآنَ وَإِن كُنتَ مِن قَبْلِهِ لَمِنَ الْغَافِلِينَнəhну нəќуссу 'əлэйкə əhсəнəль-ќōсōсы бимəə əуhəйнəə илəйкə həəз̃əəль-ќур`əəнə вə`иŋŋ-куŋŋтə миŋŋ-ќōблиhи лəминəль-ґōōфилиин
We will recount to you the best of narratives in what We have revealed to you of this Quran, and indeed prior to it you were among those who are unaware [of it]. -
12:4
إِذْ قَالَ يُوسُفُ لِأَبِيهِ يَا أَبَتِ إِنِّي رَأَيْتُ أَحَدَ عَشَرَ كَوْكَبًا وَالشَّمْسَ وَالْقَمَرَ رَأَيْتُهُمْ لِي سَاجِدِينَиз̃ ќōōлə йуусуфу ли`əбииhи йəə əбəти иннии рō`əйту əhəдə 'əшəрō кəукəбəу-вəш-шəмсə вəəльќōмəрō рō`əйтуhум лии сəəджидиин
When Joseph said to his father, ‘Father! I saw eleven planets, and the sun and the moon: I saw them prostrating themselves before me,’ -
12:5
قَالَ يَا بُنَيَّ لَا تَقْصُصْ رُؤْيَاكَ عَلَىٰ إِخْوَتِكَ فَيَكِيدُوا لَكَ كَيْدًا ۖ إِنَّ الشَّيْطَانَ لِلْإِنسَانِ عَدُوٌّ مُّبِينٌќōōлə йəə бунəййə лəə тəќсус ру`йəəкə 'əлəə ихвəтикə фəйəкиидуу лəкə кəйдə, иннəш-шэйтōōнə ли-ль-иŋŋсəəни 'əдуувумм-мубиин
he said, ‘My son, do not recount your dream to your brothers, lest they should devise schemes against you. Satan is indeed man’s manifest enemy. -
12:6
وَكَذَٰلِكَ يَجْتَبِيكَ رَبُّكَ وَيُعَلِّمُكَ مِن تَأْوِيلِ الْأَحَادِيثِ وَيُتِمُّ نِعْمَتَهُ عَلَيْكَ وَعَلَىٰ آلِ يَعْقُوبَ كَمَا أَتَمَّهَا عَلَىٰ أَبَوَيْكَ مِن قَبْلُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ وَإِسْحَاقَ ۚ إِنَّ رَبَّكَ عَلِيمٌ حَكِيمٌвəкəз̃əəликə йəджтəбиикə рōббукə вəйу'əллимукə миŋŋ-тə`виилиль-əhəəдииc̃и вəйутимму ни'мəтəhу 'əлэйкə вə'əлəə əəли йə'ќуубə кəмəə əтəммəhəə 'əлəə əбəвəйкə миŋŋ-ќōблю ибрōōhиимə вə`исhəəќ, иннə рōббəкə 'əлиимун həкиим
That is how your Lord will choose you, and teach you the interpretation of dreams, and complete His blessing upon you and upon the house of Jacob, just as He completed it earlier for your fathers, Abraham and Isaac. Your Lord is indeed all-knowing and all-wise.’ -
12:8
إِذْ قَالُوا لَيُوسُفُ وَأَخُوهُ أَحَبُّ إِلَىٰ أَبِينَا مِنَّا وَنَحْنُ عُصْبَةٌ إِنَّ أَبَانَا لَفِي ضَلَالٍ مُّبِينٍиз̃ ќōōлюю лəйуусуфу вə`əхууhу əhəббу илəə əбиинəə миннəə вəнəhну 'усбəтун иннə əбəəнəə лəфии дōлəəлимм-мубиин
When they said, ‘Surely Joseph and his brother are dearer to our father than [the rest of] us, though we are a hardy band. Our father is indeed in manifest error.’ -
12:9
اقْتُلُوا يُوسُفَ أَوِ اطْرَحُوهُ أَرْضًا يَخْلُ لَكُمْ وَجْهُ أَبِيكُمْ وَتَكُونُوا مِن بَعْدِهِ قَوْمًا صَالِحِينَуќтулюю йуусуфə əви-трōhууhу əрдōй-йəхлю лəкум вəджhу əбиикум вəтəкуунуу мимм-бə'диhи ќōумəн сōōлиhиин
‘Kill Joseph or cast him away into some [distant] land, so that your father’s attention may be exclusively towards you, and thereafter you may become a righteous lot.’ -
12:10
قَالَ قَائِلٌ مِّنْهُمْ لَا تَقْتُلُوا يُوسُفَ وَأَلْقُوهُ فِي غَيَابَتِ الْجُبِّ يَلْتَقِطْهُ بَعْضُ السَّيَّارَةِ إِن كُنتُمْ فَاعِلِينَќōōлə ќōō`илюмм-минhум лəə тəќтулюю йуусуфə вə`əльќууhу фии ґōйəəбəтиль-джубби йəльтəќитhу бə'дус-сəййəəрōти иŋŋ-куŋŋтум фəə'илиин
One of them said, ‘Do not kill Joseph, but cast him into the recess of a well so that some caravan may pick him up, if you are to do [anything].’ -
12:13
قَالَ إِنِّي لَيَحْزُنُنِي أَن تَذْهَبُوا بِهِ وَأَخَافُ أَن يَأْكُلَهُ الذِّئْبُ وَأَنتُمْ عَنْهُ غَافِلُونَќōōлə иннии лəйəhзунунии əŋŋ-тəз̃həбуу биhи вə`əхōōфу əй-йə`кулəhуз̃-з̃и`бу вə`əŋŋтум 'əнhу ґōōфилююн
He said, ‘It really upsets me that you should take him away, and I fear the wolf may eat him while you are oblivious of him.’ -
12:15
فَلَمَّا ذَهَبُوا بِهِ وَأَجْمَعُوا أَن يَجْعَلُوهُ فِي غَيَابَتِ الْجُبِّ ۚ وَأَوْحَيْنَا إِلَيْهِ لَتُنَبِّئَنَّهُم بِأَمْرِهِمْ هَـٰذَا وَهُمْ لَا يَشْعُرُونَфəлəммəə з̃əhəбуу биhи вə`əджмə'уу əй-йəдж'əлююhу фии ґōйəəбəтиль-джубб, вə`əуhəйнəə илəйhи лəтунəбби`əннəhумм-би`əмриhим həəз̃əə вəhум лəə йəш'уруун
So when they took him away and conspired to put him into the recess of a well, We revealed to him, ‘[A day will come when] you will surely inform them about this affair of theirs while they are not aware [of your identity].’ -
12:17
قَالُوا يَا أَبَانَا إِنَّا ذَهَبْنَا نَسْتَبِقُ وَتَرَكْنَا يُوسُفَ عِندَ مَتَاعِنَا فَأَكَلَهُ الذِّئْبُ ۖ وَمَا أَنتَ بِمُؤْمِنٍ لَّنَا وَلَوْ كُنَّا صَادِقِينَќōōлюю йəə əбəəнəə иннəə з̃əhəбнəə нəстəбиќу вəтəрōкнəə йуусуфə 'иŋŋдə мəтəə'инəə фə`əкəлəhуз̃-з̃и`б, вəмəə əŋŋтə биму`миниль-лəнəə вəлəу куннəə сōōдиќиин
They said, ‘Father! We had gone racing and left Joseph with our things, whereat the wolf ate him. But you will not believe us even if we spoke truly.’ -
12:18
وَجَاءُوا عَلَىٰ قَمِيصِهِ بِدَمٍ كَذِبٍ ۚ قَالَ بَلْ سَوَّلَتْ لَكُمْ أَنفُسُكُمْ أَمْرًا ۖ فَصَبْرٌ جَمِيلٌ ۖ وَاللَّهُ الْمُسْتَعَانُ عَلَىٰ مَا تَصِفُونَвəджəə`уу 'əлəə ќōмиисыhи бидəмин кəз̃иб, ќōōлə бəль сəувəлəт лəкум əŋŋфусукум əмрō, фəсōбрун джəмииль, вəл-лаhуль-мустə'əəну 'əлəə мəə тəсыфуун
And they produced sham blood on his shirt. He said, ‘No, your souls have made a matter seem decorous to you. Yet patience is graceful, and Allah is my resort against what you allege.’ -
12:19
وَجَاءَتْ سَيَّارَةٌ فَأَرْسَلُوا وَارِدَهُمْ فَأَدْلَىٰ دَلْوَهُ ۖ قَالَ يَا بُشْرَىٰ هَـٰذَا غُلَامٌ ۚ وَأَسَرُّوهُ بِضَاعَةً ۚ وَاللَّهُ عَلِيمٌ بِمَا يَعْمَلُونَвəджəə`əт сəййəəрōтун фə`əрсəлюю вəəридəhум фə`əдлəə дəльвəh, ќōōлə йəə бушрōō həəз̃əə ґулəəм, вə`əсəррууhу бидōō'əh, вəл-лаhу 'əлиимумм-бимəə йə'мəлююн
There came a caravan, and they sent their water-drawer, who let down his bucket. ‘Good news!’ he said. ‘This is a young boy!’ So they hid him as [a piece of] merchandise, and Allah knew best what they were doing. -
12:21
وَقَالَ الَّذِي اشْتَرَاهُ مِن مِّصْرَ لِامْرَأَتِهِ أَكْرِمِي مَثْوَاهُ عَسَىٰ أَن يَنفَعَنَا أَوْ نَتَّخِذَهُ وَلَدًا ۚ وَكَذَٰلِكَ مَكَّنَّا لِيُوسُفَ فِي الْأَرْضِ وَلِنُعَلِّمَهُ مِن تَأْوِيلِ الْأَحَادِيثِ ۚ وَاللَّهُ غَالِبٌ عَلَىٰ أَمْرِهِ وَلَـٰكِنَّ أَكْثَرَ النَّاسِ لَا يَعْلَمُونَвəќōōлəль-лəз̃ии-штəрōōhу мимм-мисрō лимрō`əтиhи əкримии мəc̃вəəhу 'əсəə əй-йəŋŋфə'əнəə əу нəттəхыз̃əhу вəлəдə, вəкəз̃əəликə мəккəннəə лийуусуфə фииль-əрды вəлину'əллимəhу миŋŋ-тə`виилиль-əhəəдииc̃, вəл-лаhу ґōōлибун 'əлəə əмриhи вəлəəкиннə əкc̃əрōн-нəəси лəə йə'лəмуун
The man from Egypt who had bought him said to his wife, ‘Give him an honourable place [in the household]. Maybe he will be useful to us, or we may adopt him as a son.’ Thus We established Joseph in the land and that We might teach him the interpretation of dreams. Allah has [full] command of His affairs, but most people do not know.
