    عَنِ الْمُجْرِمِينَ

    'əниль-муджримиин

    مَا سَلَكَكُمْ فِي سَقَرَ

    мəə сəлəкəкум фии сəќōр

    ‘What drew you into Hell?’

  • 74:43
    قَالُوا لَمْ نَكُ مِنَ الْمُصَلِّينَ

    ќōōлюю лəм нəку минəль-мусōллиин

    They will answer, ‘We were not among those who prayed.

  • 74:44
    وَلَمْ نَكُ نُطْعِمُ الْمِسْكِينَ

    вəлəм нəку нут'имуль-мискиин

    Nor did we feed the poor.

  • 74:45
    وَكُنَّا نَخُوضُ مَعَ الْخَائِضِينَ

    вəкуннəə нəхууду мə'əль-хōō`идыын

    We used to indulge in [profane] gossip along with the gossipers,

  • 74:46
    وَكُنَّا نُكَذِّبُ بِيَوْمِ الدِّينِ

    вəкуннəə нукəз̃з̃ибу бийəумид-диин

    and we used to deny the Day of Retribution

    حَتَّىٰ أَتَانَا الْيَقِينُ

    həттəə əтəəнəəль-йəќиин

    until death came to us.’

    فَمَا تَنفَعُهُمْ شَفَاعَةُ الشَّافِعِينَ

    фəмəə тəŋŋфə'уhум шəфəə'əтуш-шəəфи'иин

    So the intercession of the intercessors will not avail them.

    فَمَا لَهُمْ عَنِ التَّذْكِرَةِ مُعْرِضِينَ

    фəмəə лəhум 'əнит-тəз̃кирōти му'ридыын

    What is the matter with them that they evade the Reminder

    كَأَنَّهُمْ حُمُرٌ مُّسْتَنفِرَةٌ

    кə`əннəhум hумурумм-мустəŋŋфирōh

    as if they were terrified asses

  • 74:51
    فَرَّتْ مِن قَسْوَرَةٍ

    фəррōт миŋŋ-ќōсвəрōh

    fleeing from a lion?

  • 74:52
    بَلْ يُرِيدُ كُلُّ امْرِئٍ مِّنْهُمْ أَن يُؤْتَىٰ صُحُفًا مُّنَشَّرَةً

    бəль йурииду куллю-мри`имм-минhум əй-йу`тəə суhуфəмм-мунəшшəрōh

    But everyone of them desires to be given unrolled scriptures [from Allah]!

  • 74:53
    كَلَّا  ۖ بَل لَّا يَخَافُونَ الْآخِرَةَ

    кəльлəə, бəль-лəə йəхōōфуунəль-əəхырōh

    No! Indeed, they do not fear the Hereafter.

    كَلَّا إِنَّهُ تَذْكِرَةٌ

    кəльлəə иннəhу тəз̃кирōh

    No! It is indeed a reminder.

  • 74:55
    فَمَن شَاءَ ذَكَرَهُ

    фəмəŋŋ-шəə`ə з̃əкəрōh

    So let anyone who wishes be mindful of it.

  • 74:56
    وَمَا يَذْكُرُونَ إِلَّا أَن يَشَاءَ اللَّهُ  ۚ هُوَ أَهْلُ التَّقْوَىٰ وَأَهْلُ الْمَغْفِرَةِ

    вəмəə йəз̃куруунə ильлəə əй-йəшəə`əл-лаh, hувə əhлют-тəќвəə вə`əhлюль-мəґфирōh

    And they will not be mindful unless Allah wishes. He is worthy of [your] being wary [of Him] and He is worthy to forgive.
