surah074

يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلْمُدَّثِّرُ١

йəə əййуhəəль-муддəc̃c̃ир

O you wrapped up in your mantle!

قُمْ فَأَنذِرْ٢

ќум фəəӈз̃ир

Rise up and warn!

وَرَبَّكَ فَكَبِّرْ٣

вəрōббəкə фəкəббир

Magnify your Lord,

وَثِيَابَكَ فَطَهِّرْ٤

вəc̃ийəəбəкə фəт̣ōhhир

and purify your clothes,

وَٱلرُّجْزَ فَٱهْجُرْ٥

вə рруджзə фəəhджур

and keep away from all impurity!

وَلَا تَمْنُن تَسْتَكْثِرُ٦

вəлəə тəмнуӈ-тəстəкc̃ир

Do not grant a favour seeking a greater gain,

وَلِرَبِّكَ فَٱصْبِرْ٧

вəлирōббикə фəəсбир

and be patient for the sake of your Lord.

فَإِذَا نُقِرَ فِى ٱلنَّاقُورِ٨

фəиз̃əə нуќирō фии ннəəќуур

When the Trumpet will be sounded,

فَذَٲلِكَ يَوْمَئِذٍ يَوْمٌ عَسِيرٌ٩

фəз̃əəликə йəумə'из̃ий-йəумун 'əсиир

that will be a day of hardship,

عَلَى ٱلْكَـٰفِرِينَ غَيْرُ يَسِيرٍ١٠

'əлəəль-кəəфириинə ґōйру йəсиир

not at all easy for the faithless.

ذَرْنِى وَمَنْ خَلَقْتُ وَحِيدًا١١

з̃əрнии вəмəн хōлəќту вəhиидə

Leave Me [to deal] with him whom I created alone,

وَجَعَلْتُ لَهُۥ مَالاً مَّمْدُودًا١٢

вəджə'əльту лəhу мəəлəмм-мəмдуудə

and furnished him with extensive means,

وَبَنِينَ شُهُودًا١٣

вəбəниинə шуhуудə

[gave him] sons to be at his side,

وَمَهَّدتُّ لَهُۥ تَمْهِيدًا١٤

вəмəhhəтту лəhу тəмhиидə

and facilitated [all matters] for him.

ثُمَّ يَطْمَعُ أَنْ أَزِيدَ١٥

c̃уммə йəт̣мə'у əн əзиид

Still he is eager that I should give him more.

كَلَّآ‌ۖ إِنَّهُۥ كَانَ لِأَيَـٰتِنَا عَنِيدًا١٦

кəльлəə, иннəhу кəəнə ли'əəйəəтинəə 'əниидə

No indeed! He is an obstinate opponent of Our signs.

سَأُرْهِقُهُۥ صَعُودًا١٧

сəурhиќуhу сō'уудə

Soon I will overwhelm him with hardship.

إِنَّهُۥ فَكَّرَ وَقَدَّرَ١٨

иннəhу фəккəрō вəќōддəр

Indeed he reflected and decided.

فَقُتِلَ كَيْفَ قَدَّرَ١٩

фəќутилə кəйфə ќōддəр

Perish he, how he decided!

ثُمَّ قُتِلَ كَيْفَ قَدَّرَ٢٠

c̃уммə ќутилə кəйфə ќōддəр

Again, perish he, how he decided!

ثُمَّ نَظَرَ٢١

c̃уммə нəз̃ōр

Then he looked;

ثُمَّ عَبَسَ وَبَسَرَ٢٢

c̃уммə 'əбəсə вəбəсəр

then frowned and scowled.

ثُمَّ أَدْبَرَ وَٱسْتَكْبَرَ٢٣

c̃уммə əдбəрō вəəстəкбəр

Then he walked away disdainfully,

فَقَالَ إِنْ هَـٰذَآ إِلَّا سِحْرٌ يُؤْثَرُ٢٤

фəќōōлə ин həəз̃əə ильлəə сиhруй-йу'c̃əр

saying, ‘It is nothing but traditional sorcery.

إِنْ هَـٰذَآ إِلَّا قَوْلُ ٱلْبَشَرِ٢٥

ин həəз̃əə ильлəə ќōулюль-бəшəр

It is nothing but the speech of a human.’

سَأُصْلِيهِ سَقَرَ٢٦

сəуслииhи сəќōр

Soon I will cast him into Saqar.

وَمَآ أَدْرَٮٰكَ مَا سَقَرُ٢٧

вəмəə əдрōōкə мəə сəќōр

And what will show you what is Saqar?

لَا تُبْقِى وَلَا تَذَرُ٢٨

лəə тубќии вəлəə тəз̃əр

It neither spares, nor leaves [anything].

لَوَّاحَةٌ لِّلْبَشَرِ٢٩

лəувəəhəтул-ли-ль-бəшəр

It burns the skin.

عَلَيْهَا تِسْعَةَ عَشَرَ٣٠

'əлэйhəə тис'əтə 'əшəр

There are nineteen [keepers] over it.

وَمَا جَعَلْنَآ أَصْحَـٰبَ ٱلنَّارِ إِلَّا مَلَـٰٓئِكَةً‌ۙ وَمَا جَعَلْنَا عِدَّتَهُمْ إِلَّا فِتْنَةً لِّلَّذِينَ كَفَرُواْ لِيَسْتَيْقِنَ ٱلَّذِينَ أُوتُواْ ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ وَيَزْدَادَ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوٓاْ إِيمَـٰنًا‌ۙ وَلَا يَرْتَابَ ٱلَّذِينَ أُوتُواْ ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ وَٱلْمُؤْمِنُونَ‌ۙ وَلِيَقُولَ ٱلَّذِينَ فِى قُلُوبِهِم مَّرَضٌ وَٱلْكَـٰفِرُونَ مَاذَآ أَرَادَ ٱللَّهُ بِهَـٰذَا مَثَلاً‌ۚ كَذَٲلِكَ يُضِلُّ ٱللَّهُ مَن يَشَآءُ وَيَهْدِى مَن يَشَآءُ‌ۚ وَمَا يَعْلَمُ جُنُودَ رَبِّكَ إِلَّا هُوَ‌ۚ وَمَا هِىَ إِلَّا ذِكْرَىٰ لِلْبَشَرِ٣١

вəмəə джə'əльнəə əсhəəбə ннəəри ильлəə мəлəə'икəтəн вəмəə джə'əльнəə 'иддəтəhум ильлəə фитнəтəл-лильлəз̃иинə кəфəруу лийəстəйќинə льлəз̃иинə уутууль-китəəбə вəйəздəəдə льлəз̃иинə əəмəнуу иимəəнəн вəлəə йəртəəбə льлəз̃иинə уутууль-китəəбə вəəльму'минуунə вəлийəќуулə льлəз̃иинə фии ќулююбиhим-мəрōдуу-вəəлькəəфируунə мəəз̃əə əрōōдə ллаhу биhəəз̃əə мəc̃əлə, кəз̃əəликə йудыллю ллаhу мəй-йəшəə'у вəйəhдии мəй-йəшəə', вəмəə йə'лəму джунуудə рōббикə ильлəə hуу, вəмəə hийə ильлəə з̃икрōō ли-ль-бəшəр

We have assigned only angels as keepers of the Fire, and We have made their number merely a stumbling block for the faithless, and so that those who were given the Book may be reassured, and the faithful may increase in [their] faith, and so that those who were given the Book and the faithful may not be in doubt, and so that the faithless and those in whose hearts is a sickness may say, ‘What did Allah mean by this description?’ Thus does Allah lead astray whomever He wishes and guides whomever He wishes. No one knows the hosts of your Lord except Him, and it is just an admonition for all humans.

كَلَّا وَٱلْقَمَرِ٣٢

кəльлəə вəəльќōмəр

No indeed! By the Moon!

وَٱلَّيْلِ إِذْ أَدْبَرَ٣٣

вə льлэйли из̃ əдбəр

By the night when it recedes!

وَٱلصُّبْحِ إِذَآ أَسْفَرَ٣٤

вə ссубhи из̃əə əсфəр

By the dawn when it brightens!

إِنَّهَا لَإِحْدَى ٱلْكُبَرِ٣٥

иннəhəə лəиhдəəль-кубəр

Indeed they are one of the greatest [signs of God]

نَذِيرًا لِّلْبَشَرِ٣٦

нəз̃иирōл-ли-ль-бəшəр

—a warner to all humans,

لِمَن شَآءَ مِنكُمْ أَن يَتَقَدَّمَ أَوْ يَتَأَخَّرَ٣٧

лимəӈ-шəə'ə миӈкум əй-йəтəќōддəмə əу йəтəəххōр

[alike] for those of you who like to advance ahead and those who would remain behind.

كُلُّ نَفْسِۭ بِمَا كَسَبَتْ رَهِينَةٌ٣٨

куллю нəфсимм-бимəə кəсəбəт рōhиинəh

Every soul is hostage to what it has earned,

إِلَّآ أَصْحَـٰبَ ٱلْيَمِينِ٣٩

ильлəə əсhəəбəль-йəмиин

except the People of the Right Hand.

فِى جَنَّـٰتٍ يَتَسَآءَلُونَ٤٠

фии джəннəəтий-йəтəсəə'əлююн

[They will be] in gardens, questioning

عَنِ ٱلْمُجْرِمِينَ٤١

'əниль-муджримиин

the guilty:

مَا سَلَكَكُمْ فِى سَقَرَ٤٢

мəə сəлəкəкум фии сəќōр

‘What drew you into Hell?’

قَالُواْ لَمْ نَكُ مِنَ ٱلْمُصَلِّينَ٤٣

ќōōлюю лəм нəку минəль-мусōллиин

They will answer, ‘We were not among those who prayed.

وَلَمْ نَكُ نُطْعِمُ ٱلْمِسْكِينَ٤٤

вəлəм нəку нут̣'имуль-мискиин

Nor did we feed the poor.

وَكُنَّا نَخُوضُ مَعَ ٱلْخَآئِضِينَ٤٥

вəкуннəə нəхууду мə'əль-хōō'идыын

We used to indulge in [profane] gossip along with the gossipers,

وَكُنَّا نُكَذِّبُ بِيَوْمِ ٱلدِّينِ٤٦

вəкуннəə нукəз̃з̃ибу бийəумид-диин

and we used to deny the Day of Retribution

حَتَّىٰٓ أَتَـٰنَا ٱلْيَقِينُ٤٧

həттəə əтəəнəəль-йəќиин

until death came to us.’

فَمَا تَنفَعُهُمْ شَفَـٰعَةُ ٱلشَّـٰفِعِينَ٤٨

фəмəə тəӈфə'уhум шəфəə'əту шшəəфи'иин

So the intercession of the intercessors will not avail them.

فَمَا لَهُمْ عَنِ ٱلتَّذْكِرَةِ مُعْرِضِينَ٤٩

фəмəə лəhум 'əни ттəз̃кирōти му'ридыын

What is the matter with them that they evade the Reminder

كَأَنَّهُمْ حُمُرٌ مُّسْتَنفِرَةٌ٥٠

кəəннəhум hумурумм-мустəӈфирōh

as if they were terrified asses

فَرَّتْ مِن قَسْوَرَةِۭ٥١

фəррōт миӈ-ќōсвəрōh

fleeing from a lion?

بَلْ يُرِيدُ كُلُّ ٱمْرِىٍٕ مِّنْهُمْ أَن يُؤْتَىٰ صُحُفًا مُّنَشَّرَةً٥٢

бəль йурииду куллю-мри'имм-минhум əй-йу'тəə суhуфəмм-мунəшшəрōh

But everyone of them desires to be given unrolled scriptures [from Allah]!

كَلَّا‌ۖ بَل لَّا يَخَافُونَ ٱلْأَخِرَةَ٥٣

кəльлəə, бəль-лəə йəхōōфуунəль-'əəхырōh

No! Indeed, they do not fear the Hereafter.

كَلَّآ إِنَّهُۥ تَذْكِرَةٌ٥٤

кəльлəə иннəhу тəз̃кирōh

No! It is indeed a reminder.

فَمَن شَآءَ ذَكَرَهُۥ٥٥

фəмəӈ-шəə'ə з̃əкəрōh

So let anyone who wishes be mindful of it.

وَمَا يَذْكُرُونَ إِلَّآ أَن يَشَآءَ ٱللَّهُ‌ۚ هُوَ أَهْلُ ٱلتَّقْوَىٰ وَأَهْلُ ٱلْمَغْفِرَةِ٥٦

вəмəə йəз̃куруунə ильлəə əй-йəшəə'ə ллаh, hувə əhлю ттəќвəə вəəhлюль-мəґфирōh

And they will not be mindful unless Allah wishes. He is worthy of [your] being wary [of Him] and He is worthy to forgive.
