Saffat (Those Who Set the Ranks)

  • بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَـٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ

    бисмиль-лəhир-рōhмəəнир-рōhиим

    In the Name of Allah, the All-beneficent, the All-merciful.
  • 37:1

    وَالصَّافَّاتِ صَفًّا

    вəс-сōōффəəти сōффə

    By the [angels] ranged in ranks,
  • 37:2

    فَالزَّاجِرَاتِ زَجْرًا

    фəз-зəəджирōōти зəджрō

    by the ones who drive [the clouds] vigorously,
  • 37:3

    فَالتَّالِيَاتِ ذِكْرًا

    фəт-тəəлийəəти з̃икрō

    by the ones who recite the reminder:
  • 37:4

    إِنَّ إِلَـٰهَكُمْ لَوَاحِدٌ

    иннə илəəhəкум лəвəəhид

    indeed your God is certainly One,
  • 37:5

    رَّبُّ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَا وَرَبُّ الْمَشَارِقِ

    рōббус-сəмəəвəəти вəəль`əрды вəмəə бэйнəhумəə вəрōббуль-мəшəəриќ

    the Lord of the heavens and the earth and whatever is between them, and the Lord of the easts.
  • 37:6

    إِنَّا زَيَّنَّا السَّمَاءَ الدُّنْيَا بِزِينَةٍ الْكَوَاكِبِ

    иннəə зəййəннəəс-сəмəə`əд-дунйəə бизиинəтинль-кəвəəкиб

    Indeed We have adorned the lowest heaven with the finery of the stars,
  • 37:7

    وَحِفْظًا مِّن كُلِّ شَيْطَانٍ مَّارِدٍ

    вəhифз̃ōмм-миŋŋ-кулли шэйтōōнимм-мəəрид

    and to guard from any froward devil.
  • 37:8

    لَّا يَسَّمَّعُونَ إِلَى الْمَلَإِ الْأَعْلَىٰ وَيُقْذَفُونَ مِن كُلِّ جَانِبٍ

    лəə йəссəммə'уунə илəəль-мəлə`иль-ə'лəə вəйуќз̃əфуунə миŋŋ-кулли джəəниб

    They do not eavesdrop on the Supernal Elite—they are shot at from every side,
  • 37:9

    دُحُورًا  ۖ وَلَهُمْ عَذَابٌ وَاصِبٌ

    дуhуурō, вəлəhум 'əз̃əəбуу-вəəсыб

    to drive them away, and there is a perpetual punishment for them—
  • 37:10

    إِلَّا مَنْ خَطِفَ الْخَطْفَةَ فَأَتْبَعَهُ شِهَابٌ ثَاقِبٌ

    ильлəə мəн хōтыфəль-хōтфəтə фə`əтбə'əhу шиhəəбун c̃əəќиб

    except any who snatches a snatch, whereat a piercing flame pursues him.
  • 37:11

    فَاسْتَفْتِهِمْ أَهُمْ أَشَدُّ خَلْقًا أَم مَّنْ خَلَقْنَا  ۚ إِنَّا خَلَقْنَاهُم مِّن طِينٍ لَّازِبٍ

    фəəстəфтиhим əhум əшəдду хōльќōн əм-мəн хōлəќнəə, иннəə хōлəќнəəhум-миŋŋ-тыыниль-лəəзиб

    Ask them, is their creation more prodigious or [that of other creatures] that We have created? Indeed, We created them from a viscous clay.
  • 37:12

    بَلْ عَجِبْتَ وَيَسْخَرُونَ

    бəль 'əджибтə вəйəсхōруун

    Indeed you wonder, while they engage in ridicule,
  • 37:13

    وَإِذَا ذُكِّرُوا لَا يَذْكُرُونَ

    вə`из̃əə з̃уккируу лəə йəз̃куруун

    and [even] when admonished do not take admonition,
  • 37:14

    وَإِذَا رَأَوْا آيَةً يَسْتَسْخِرُونَ

    вə`из̃əə рō`əу əəйəтəй-йəстəсхыруун

    and when they see a sign they make it an object of ridicule,
  • 37:15

    وَقَالُوا إِنْ هَـٰذَا إِلَّا سِحْرٌ مُّبِينٌ

    вəќōōлюю ин həəз̃əə ильлəə сиhрумм-мубиин

    and say, ‘This is nothing but plain magic!’
  • 37:16

    أَإِذَا مِتْنَا وَكُنَّا تُرَابًا وَعِظَامًا أَإِنَّا لَمَبْعُوثُونَ

    ə`из̃əə митнəə вəкуннəə турōōбəу-вə'из̃ōōмəн ə`иннəə лəмəб'ууc̃уун

    ‘What! When we are dead and have become dust and bones, shall we be resurrected?
  • 37:17

    أَوَآبَاؤُنَا الْأَوَّلُونَ

    əвə`əəбəə`унəəль-əувəлююн

    And our forefathers too?!’
  • 37:18

    قُلْ نَعَمْ وَأَنتُمْ دَاخِرُونَ

    ќуль нə'əм вə`əŋŋтум дəəхыруун

    Say, ‘Yes! And you will be utterly humble.’
  • 37:19

    فَإِنَّمَا هِيَ زَجْرَةٌ وَاحِدَةٌ فَإِذَا هُمْ يَنظُرُونَ

    фə`иннəмəə hийə зəджрōтуу-вəəhидəтун фə`из̃əə hум йəŋŋз̃уруун

    It will be only a single shout and, behold, they will look on,
  • 37:20

    وَقَالُوا يَا وَيْلَنَا هَـٰذَا يَوْمُ الدِّينِ

    вəќōōлюю йəə вəйлəнəə həəз̃əə йəумуд-диин

    and say, ‘Woe to us! This is the Day of Retribution!’
