Balad (City)

  • بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَـٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ

    бисмиль-лəhир-рōhмəəнир-рōhиим

    In the Name of Allah, the All-beneficent, the All-merciful.
  • 90:1

    لَا أُقْسِمُ بِهَـٰذَا الْبَلَدِ

    лəə уќсиму биhəəз̃əəль-бəлəд

    I swear by this town,
  • 90:2

    وَأَنتَ حِلٌّ بِهَـٰذَا الْبَلَدِ

    вə`əŋŋтə hиллюмм-биhəəз̃əəль-бəлəд

    as you reside in this town;
  • 90:3

    وَوَالِدٍ وَمَا وَلَدَ

    вəвəəлидиу-вəмəə вəлəд

    [and] by the father and him whom he begot:
  • 90:4

    لَقَدْ خَلَقْنَا الْإِنسَانَ فِي كَبَدٍ

    лəќōд хōлəќнəəль-иŋŋсəəнə фии кəбəд

    certainly We created man in travail.
  • 90:5

    أَيَحْسَبُ أَن لَّن يَقْدِرَ عَلَيْهِ أَحَدٌ

    əйəhсəбу əль-лэй-йəќдирō 'əлэйhи əhəд

    Does he suppose that no one will ever have power over him?
  • 90:6

    يَقُولُ أَهْلَكْتُ مَالًا لُّبَدًا

    йəќуулю əhлəкту мəəлəл-любəдə

    He says, ‘I have squandered immense wealth.’
  • 90:7

    أَيَحْسَبُ أَن لَّمْ يَرَهُ أَحَدٌ

    əйəhсəбу əль-лəм йəрōhу əhəд

    Does he suppose that no one sees him?
  • 90:8

    أَلَمْ نَجْعَل لَّهُ عَيْنَيْنِ

    əлəм нəдж'əль-лəhу 'əйнəйн

    Have We not made for him two eyes,
  • 90:9

    وَلِسَانًا وَشَفَتَيْنِ

    вəлисəəнəу-вəшəфəтəйн

    a tongue, and two lips,
  • 90:10

    وَهَدَيْنَاهُ النَّجْدَيْنِ

    вəhəдəйнəəhун-нəдждəйн

    and shown him the two paths [of good and evil]?
  • 90:11

    فَلَا اقْتَحَمَ الْعَقَبَةَ

    фəлəə-ќтəhəмəль-'əќōбəh

    Yet he has not embarked upon the uphill task.
  • 90:12

    وَمَا أَدْرَاكَ مَا الْعَقَبَةُ

    вəмəə əдрōōкə мəəль-'əќōбəh

    And what will show you what is the uphill task?
  • 90:13

    فَكُّ رَقَبَةٍ

    фəкку рōќōбəh

    [It is] the freeing of a slave,
  • 90:14

    أَوْ إِطْعَامٌ فِي يَوْمٍ ذِي مَسْغَبَةٍ

    əу ит'əəмун фии йəумин з̃ии мəсґōбəh

    or feeding, during days of [general] starvation,
  • 90:15

    يَتِيمًا ذَا مَقْرَبَةٍ

    йəтиимəн з̃əə мəќрōбəh

    an orphan among relatives
  • 90:16

    أَوْ مِسْكِينًا ذَا مَتْرَبَةٍ

    əу мискиинəн з̃əə мəтрōбəh

    or a needy man in desolation,
  • 90:17

    ثُمَّ كَانَ مِنَ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَتَوَاصَوْا بِالصَّبْرِ وَتَوَاصَوْا بِالْمَرْحَمَةِ

    c̃уммə кəəнə минəль-лəз̃иинə əəмəнуу вəтəвəəсōу бис-сōбри вəтəвəəсōу би-ль-мəрhəмəh

    while being one of those who have faith and enjoin one another to patience, and enjoin one another to compassion.
  • 90:18

    أُولَـٰئِكَ أَصْحَابُ الْمَيْمَنَةِ

    уулəə`икə əсhəəбуль-мəймəнəh

    They are the People of the Right Hand.
  • 90:19

    وَالَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا بِآيَاتِنَا هُمْ أَصْحَابُ الْمَشْأَمَةِ

    вəəльлəз̃иинə кəфəруу би`əəйəəтинəə hум əсhəəбуль-мəш`əмəh

    But those who defy Our signs, they are the People of the Left Hand.
  • 90:20

    عَلَيْهِمْ نَارٌ مُّؤْصَدَةٌ

    'əлэйhим нəəрумм-му`сōдəh

    A closed Fire will be [imposed] upon them.
