Shams (Sun)

  • بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَـٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ

    бисмиль-лəhир-рōhмəəнир-рōhиим

    In the Name of Allah, the All-beneficent, the All-merciful.
  • 91:1

    وَالشَّمْسِ وَضُحَاهَا

    вəш-шəмси вəдуhəəhəə

    By the sun and her forenoon splendour,
  • 91:2

    وَالْقَمَرِ إِذَا تَلَاهَا

    вəəльќōмəри из̃əə тəлəəhəə

    by the moon when he follows her,
  • 91:3

    وَالنَّهَارِ إِذَا جَلَّاهَا

    вəн-нəhəəри из̃əə джəльлəəhəə

    by the day when it reveals her,
  • 91:4

    وَاللَّيْلِ إِذَا يَغْشَاهَا

    вəль-лэйли из̃əə йəґшəəhəə

    by the night when it covers her,
  • 91:5

    وَالسَّمَاءِ وَمَا بَنَاهَا

    вəс-сəмəə`и вəмəə бəнəəhəə

    by the sky and Him who built it,
  • 91:6

    وَالْأَرْضِ وَمَا طَحَاهَا

    вəəль`əрды вəмəə тōhəəhəə

    by the earth and Him who spread it,
  • 91:7

    وَنَفْسٍ وَمَا سَوَّاهَا

    вəнəфсиу-вəмəə сəувəəhəə

    by the soul and Him who fashioned it,
  • 91:8

    فَأَلْهَمَهَا فُجُورَهَا وَتَقْوَاهَا

    фə`əльhəмəhəə фуджуурōhəə вəтəќвəəhəə

    and inspired it with [discernment between] its virtues and vices:
  • 91:9

    قَدْ أَفْلَحَ مَن زَكَّاهَا

    ќōд əфлəhə мəŋŋ-зəккəəhəə

    one who purifies it is felicitous,
  • 91:10

    وَقَدْ خَابَ مَن دَسَّاهَا

    вəќōд хōōбə мəŋŋ-дəссəəhəə

    and one who betrays it fails.
  • 91:11

    كَذَّبَتْ ثَمُودُ بِطَغْوَاهَا

    кəз̃з̃əбəт c̃əмууду битōґвəəhəə

    The [people of] Thamud denied [Allah’s signs] out of their rebellion,
  • 91:12

    إِذِ انبَعَثَ أَشْقَاهَا

    из̃и-мм-бə'əc̃ə əшќōōhəə

    when the most wretched of them rose up.
  • 91:13

    فَقَالَ لَهُمْ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ نَاقَةَ اللَّهِ وَسُقْيَاهَا

    фəќōōлə лəhум рōсуулюл-лаhи нəəќōтəл-лаhи вəсуќйəəhəə

    The apostle of Allah had told them, ‘This is Allah’s she-camel, let her drink!’
  • 91:14

    فَكَذَّبُوهُ فَعَقَرُوهَا فَدَمْدَمَ عَلَيْهِمْ رَبُّهُم بِذَنبِهِمْ فَسَوَّاهَا

    фəкəз̃з̃əбууhу фə'əќōрууhəə фəдəмдəмə 'əлэйhим рōббуhумм-биз̃əмм-биhим фəсəувəəhəə

    But they impugned him and hamstrung her. So their Lord took them unawares by night because of their sin, and levelled it.
  • 91:15

    وَلَا يَخَافُ عُقْبَاهَا

    вəлəə йəхōōфу 'уќбəəhəə

    And He does not fear its outcome.
